DESCRIPTION: A hilt of yellow bone with smallish semi-circular ears. The joining band of the hilt is of grooved metal. Continuation of the hilt simple, decorated with horizontal grooves. On the outside of the band, the inscription: MARTICA: 1846: BOO. The blade is steel, two-edged, faceted on each side in three surfaces. On the blade, engravings of twelve scenes from the OT concerning Joseph, son of Jacob. The scenes are sequenced on the obverse of the blade in six oval medallions from the broad part to the tip, and on the reverse from tip to hilt. Below the medallions are the appropriate Latin texts. The scenes in the ovals and the Latin texts are accompanied with baroque coils and interwoven strips with leaf vine scrolls. On the surface of the blade, traces of gilding can be seen. The scabbard is wooden, more recently sheathed in galvanized metal sheeting. It was given to Ban Josip Jelacic by Fra Grga Martic from Kresevo Monastery (between 1850 and 1852). It came into the Museum in 1936 according to the terms of the J. Jelacic Bequest.
